Ministries![]() Intake Procedures
Individuals and families needing assistance must meet with a volunteer to establish eligibility for services. Identification for everyone in the home is required. Ninety days of emergency assistance is available. Further documentation after 90 days is required to establish ongoing need.
Food Pantry
The food pantry is open two days per week. As a member of the Twelve Baskets Food Bank, we are part of an effort to decrease hunger on the coast. Many return each month for assistance due to disability, unemployment, or limited income to meet life’s basic needs. Eligibility is determined according to income and household size.
Free Clinic
The Free Clinic provides quality medical care to the uninsured on the Gulf Coast. It is the only one in existence in Gulfport. Services are provided throughout the month. The schedule is available by calling 228-868-1936, or emailing GCCM. We are a member of the National Association of Free Clinics. www.freeclinics.us The Clinic was also deemed a Free Clinic under the Federal Tort Claims Act, which provides protection for volunteer physicians. (For more information, see link to Free Clinic on site)
Emergency Assistance to the Homeless
There has been an increase in the homeless population on the coast since Hurricane Katrina. With no remaining shelters, the homeless are impacted by exposure to the elements. We offer emergency food bags, first aid, blankets, bus passes, toiletry items, socks, caps, and sleeping bags. They can also receive free medical care and counseling through our ministries. Gulf Coast Community Ministries is a member of the Open Doors Homeless Coalition.
Clothes Ministry
The clothes ministry is open each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Donations of gently used items are appreciated and can be delivered to GCCM Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00p.m.
Tax receipts are available for donations.
Literacy Ministry
Beginning in the fall of 2011, literacy programs will be offered that will give individuals the opportunity to learn important life skills. These will include adult reading, ESL (English as a Second Language), and financial literacy classes.
